ALUMINAS: 70% up to 99.99%

Aluminas are one of the most versatile medias used for grinding as it is available in a wide range of purities, sizes, shapes and formulations depending upon the type of mill and product being ground.  It is also a very economical media with the combination of low price and long life. The high purity and precision grades are more costly.

Alumina Silicates are becoming a more popular category of media for small media milling as it offers longer life than silicas and lower cost than aluminas.  It is excellent for use in industries requiring a high volume of media.

Alumina Silicate Med-Dark Color Density: 2.70-3.61 Hardness: 742-1431 Vickers
Alumina Silicate Light-White Color Density: 2.60-3.00 Hardness: 800-1125 Vickers
70%-96% Alumina White Color Density: 2.35-3.77 Hardness: 590-1400 Vickers
99%-99.99% Alumina White Color Density: 3.94-3.98 Hardness: 800-1980 Vickers
Zirconia Toughened Alumina, White Color Density: 4.2-4.6 Hardness: 1000-1900 Vickers

Polymers

Polymers are counter intuitive due to the low density for use as grinding media. However, if the product is low viscosity and shear thinning, it can be quite effective.

Silicas

Silicas are one of the oldest materials for use as a grinding media.  They are still used where low viscosity, low temperatures, low wear rates on equipment and lower costs are required.

Zirconia Silicates

Zirconia Silicates were the first major advancement in improved density and durability without sacrificing price when compared to alumina for a grinding media used in small media mills.

Zirconia Oxides

Zirconia Oxide is one of the fastest growing categories of grinding medias due to its high hardness, durability, smooth surface, value and multiple options for users.
