A full range of grinding medias are available for all types of mills requiring balls, rods, cylinders, beads, pebbles for efficient particle size reduction, deagglomeration, mixing and blending.

Matching the right media to the process can be tricky.  The following must be taken into consideration:  wet or dry processing, shape of media, size, chemistry, density, Vickers hardness, particle size distribution, type of mill, contaminants, plant culture and other items as well.  The Grinding Media Depot has a thorough understanding of the processes that use grinding media.  We are always available to our customers for technical assistance and to keep them abreast of new developments in this area.  The following media is presented in order of density. The main categories are Polymers, Silicas, Aluminas, Zirconia Silicates, Zirconia Oxides, Steel/Metallics and Exotics.

The Grinding Media Depot does not represent just one brand of media.  We represent all brands that are deemed to be of  high value which is based on performance, availability, price and customer support. If you don’t see what you want, let us know and we will do our best to assist you.  We also have a power point presentation on Choosing the Right Grinding Media that we present via TEAMS or other video chat software to companies needing general information as well as training personnel.

Polymers

Polymers are counter intuitive due to the low density for use as grinding media. However, if the product is low viscosity and shear thinning, it can be quite effective.

View

Silicas

Silicas are one of the oldest materials for use as a grinding media.  They are still used where low viscosity, low temperatures, low wear rates on equipment and lower costs are required.

View

Aluminas

Aluminas are one of the most versatile medias used for grinding as it is available in a wide range of purities, sizes, shapes and formulations depending upon the type of mill and product being ground.

View

Zirconia Silicates

Zirconia Silicates were the first major advancement in improved density and durability without sacrificing price when compared to alumina for a grinding media used in small media mills.

View

Zirconia Oxides

Zirconia Oxide is one of the fastest growing categories of grinding medias due to its high hardness, durability, smooth surface, value and multiple options for users.

View

Steels

Steel is an excellent grinding media as long as the product can tolerate metal contamination and graying.

View

Exotics

The Exotic Grinding Media Section lists materials of construction that are not commonly used as a grinding media.
