ACCESSORIES for IMPELLERS

There are a few accessories for dispersing impellers that are critical for the impellers to run correctly and/or operate safely.

Collar & Set Screw

A dispersing blade is flat and secured to a disperser with a keyway and or pin holes which prevent the blade from spinning on the shaft.  In order to attach this type of impeller to a plain mixing shaft, it can be done with the a collar and set screw that is welded to the blade or welded to a stiffening plate that screws to the blade.  For added security so that the sharp blade doesn’t spin off the shaft, it is recommended to add a keyway to the collar and the shaft.

Stiffening Plates

Both metal and Polyblades require stiffening plates.  For metal blades, it provides extra stiffness to minimize the fluttering that occurs during high speed spinning.  For Polyblades, it prevents the bore, keyway and bolt holes from stretching.  Only the Type 7EP, blades with embedded stiffening plates, do not require external stiffening plates.

Finishes

Norstone has the ability to provide mechanical polishing, electro polishing and/or passivation for any Ra up to a mirror finish.

Couplings

Norstone provides standard and transition couplings for attaching impeller shafts to motor shafts.

Blade Guardians

Norstone provides custom made Blade Guardians to protect personnel from getting cut by the sharp edges on steel blades. The guards can only be used when the blade is not in motion.

SHAFTS

Norstone provides all sizes of shafts for mixing and dispersing small and very large volumes. Shafts can be coated and made with any type of design to secure the blade to the shaft including set screws, D-bores, keyways and hub for pins.
All shafts are made with pump quality precision to insure balanced spinning at high speeds.

MIXING IMPELLERS

Generally speaking, a mixing blade is a blade that fits onto a mixer which runs at low speed up to 3000 rpm

Metal Dispersing Impellers

There are many different styles of the sawtooth type dispersing blade. Some differences are subtle and may make a difference depending upon the product’s characteristics.

Polyblade Dispersing Impellers

The Polyblade is far safer than a metal blade, dual sided, lasts longer and handles higher solids and higher viscosities more efficiently.

Laboratory Impellers

Most of the styles found in both the Mixing and Dispersing sections are available in laboratory size.  Some start as small as 1” while others will be 1.5” or 2.0” depending on the style.
