Norstone specializes in assisting customers with the mixing, dispersing and milling processes for wet, dry, and paste processes. We also assist in the area of separation technology which includes screening, sieving, filtering, classifying and magnetic separation. We have extensive experience and offer free consulting as well as support for a wide variety of production methods. If all that is needed is a quote for a specific piece of equipment then we can provide that as well.

Norstone also offers a wide range of tolling services also known as contract manufacturing services. We have partnered with manufacturers in the areas of Mixing, Dispersing, Milling, Screening, Classifying, Magnetic Separation, Grinding Media Cleaning, Drying & Testing for powders and liquids.

MIXING – DISPERSING – MILLING

MIXERS: Mixers are used for slow to high speed blending of ingredients which can be powders to powders, powders to liquid, powders to gas, liquids to liquids, liquids to powders and liquids to gas.  There are endless styles of blade types, shaft configurations, materials of construction, tank dimensions, motors, controls, electrical configurations and mounting options.  We have small mixers for the laboratory, small blades for small openings and huge mixers for massive tanks for both indoor and/or outdoor use.

DISPERSERS: Dispersers are used for particle size reduction where more energy is needed than blending and mixing. Dispersers can be used for grinding, deagglomeration, homogenizing and pregrinding prior to milling. It is especially important to thoroughly disperse before milling. It is more efficient to thoroughly disperse than to use the mill for dispersing as the mill is the most expensive part of the process. Norstone offers dispersers from small laboratory machines with air, electric and explosion proof motors up to very large machines, over 500 hp, in a wide variety of mounting options such as tank mounted, floor mounted, mezzanine mounted with raising and lowering as well as in-line designs and other technologies such as fluid bed dispersing for powders.

MILLING: Milling is defined by a wide variety processes that involve particle size reduction. This can take the form of large chunks that are reduced with jaw crushers and hammermills, medium agglomerates reduced with universal mills, knife mills, classifier mills, jet mills, ball mills, vibratory mills ,attritors, shot mills, sand mills, vertical mills, horizontal mills, basket mills, immersion mills and high flow recirculation mills. Grinding with the optimum equipment can even reduce particles to nano size.

Norstone represents the highest quality equipment regarding workmanship, enduring performance, laboratory services and customer service.  Free testing is available with many of these suppliers.

SIEVING – STRAINING – CLASSIFYING – SEPARATING

Norstone assists customers with sieving, screening, filtering and separating processes for wet and dry applications offering both conventional and  specialty screeners that can screen particles as small as 10 microns. Screeners are offered in standard round and rectangular designs with side or bottom discharges. New sieving technologies include elliptical rotation for gentle screening, acoustical high energy screening of fine particles and classifier screeners for ultra fine separation.  Screeners are available for wet and dry processing, water based and solvent based.  Testing and toll processing is also available.

Norstone also offers inline static and dynamic filters.  Dynamic filters are self-cleaning eliminating the need for bags.  They are excellent for large batch filtering as well as tanker loading and unloading, and products which need check screening.

Separating equipment can also include equipment such as inline magnets for separating ferrous particles, metal detectors for separating non-ferrous and ferrious metallic particles, de-aerators for separating air from liquid, densifiers for separating air from powders and inline liquid/solid separators.

MIXING

Mixing and Blending can be a process unto itself or a step prior to other processing steps.  It is critical to ensure that the process be completed based on the desired results which could be partial blending, full blending or homogenization.

DISPERSING

Dispersion is usually defined as the mixing of two or more non-miscible liquids, or solids and liquids, into a pseudo-homogeneous mass which is more or less stable as measured by its life before noticeable separation occurs.

MILLING

Milling covers a wide range of processes for powders, liquids and pastes. The main goal of milling is to crush, de-lump, deagglomerate, cut, tear, grind, smash, granulate or reduce the particle size.

Screening & Separating

Separation through screening, sieving, classifying and filtering has been around for thousands of years.  There are many variations of “modern” screeners which are around 75 years old.
