Polyblade® Impellers

Polyblade® is a patented polymer dispersing blade line manufactured by Norstone, Inc. and distributed through Blade Depot® alongside High Shear Impellers, High Vane Impellers, Turbine Blades, Propeller Blades, High Viscosity Blades, and Custom Impellers. The blade design replaces metal dispersing impellers in mixing and dispersing applications where metal contamination, corrosion, or blade wear affect product quality. Polyblade® impellers are available across the same mounting and shaft configurations used for metal dispersing blades, allowing direct substitution in existing tank setups without a change to tank or mixer geometry.

    Characteristics

Polyblade® is defined by the following properties:

    • Polymer construction. Polyblade® is engineered as a direct substitute for metal dispersing impellers, replacing the stainless steel construction used in High Shear Impellers and Turbine Blades.
    • Reduced contamination profile. The polymer construction eliminates the metal-to-product contact responsible for metal contamination and corrosion in steel dispersing blades.
    • Extended wear profile. Polyblade® resists the abrasive wear that shortens steel blade life in high-solids or corrosive dispersing applications, extending service intervals between replacements.
    • Pharmaceutical grade availability. Pharmaceutical grade Polyblade® impellers are available for applications with elevated contamination control requirements.
    • Direct configuration match. Polyblade® is sized and mounted to match existing tank and shaft geometry, supporting substitution without equipment redesign.

Because Polyblade® is generally selected for contamination control and wear life rather than maximum shear or pumping capacity, it should be compared against High Shear Impellers or Custom Impellers where those factors are the primary process driver.

    When Polyblade® Is Typically Selected

Polyblade® is generally chosen for production lines replacing worn or contaminated metal dispersing blades, and for pharmaceutical, food, and coatings processes where metal contamination control is required. Compared to High Shear Impellers, a metal dispersing blade built for aggressive high speed dispersion, Polyblade® is selected when contamination control outweighs the need for the highest available shear rate. Facilities standardizing on a single blade platform across metal and polymer dispersing needs also specify Polyblade® to reduce the number of blade types stocked and maintained.

    Applications

Polyblade® supports dispersing applications across the following use cases:

    • Production lines replacing worn or contaminated metal dispersing blades
    • Pharmaceutical, food, and coatings processes where metal contamination control is required
    • High-solids or corrosive dispersing batches where steel blade wear shortens service intervals
    • Facilities standardizing on a single blade platform across metal and polymer dispersing needs

    Patent and Product History

Polyblade® holds a design patent dating to 1999. Norstone, Inc. has expanded the line with the Norstone Turbo Polyblade, patented in 2011, and the Norstone HS Polyblade, patented in 2016. Norblade® impellers remain available for applications requiring a metal dispersing blade rather than the polymer Polyblade® construction.
