    Alumina Silicate media is defined by the following properties:

    When Alumina Silicate Media Is Typically Selected

This makes Alumina Silicate a common intermediate step for processes that have outgrown standard silica performance without needing the full hardness of a pure ceramic media.     Against harder non-silica families such as Alumina or Zirconia media, Alumina Silicate still offers lower cost at the tradeoff of somewhat less hardness and wear resistance. Processes converting from a standard silica subtype to Alumina Silicate typically see an increase in grinding intensity and should expect to review mill loading and cycle time as a result of the density difference.
